Bishop's Stortford College Target Ovarian Cancer

Friday 24th April was a Senior School Charity Day at Bishop's Stortford College in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer. Every year over 7000 women are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and this charity offers support for women dealing with the disease, which recurs in 70% of suffers, as well as funding ovarian cancer specific research.

Pupils paid £2 each to come in non-uniform and cakes were baked, sold and enjoyed by all. There was also plenty of chance to work off the cake in the Bishop's Stortford College Super Sporty Challenge. Target Ovarian Cancer is keen that fundraisers take part in challenges; each day is a challenge for women living with this ovarian cancer.

Four mixed teams made up of Upper Fifth and Upper Sixth pupils and staff battled it out on the fields of 5-a-side footie and on the courts of volleyball and netball. Matches were played in great spirit and the good humour was infectious.

The source of all of this charitable chaos is a group of four Lower Sixth pupils who took the initiative and asked the Charity Committee if they could do something for Target Ovarian Cancer, since they know someone who has been battling ovarian cancer for some time. Thanks to the boys' 'go for it' approach, they managed to raise £40 in 2 minutes by each drinking a bottle of pop through one of their friend's socks! This enthusiastic and energetic spirit continued and the Senior School raised £1500 for their chosen charity. Well done to everyone who took part.
