The girls and staff at St Mary’s Shaftesbury are celebrating the best ever results with 83% achieving A*-B and 20% A* against a background of fewer top grades being awarded nationally. St Mary’s is a school that provides outstanding teaching and when combined with a year group of intelligent, talented and motivated students who are individually nurtured, the outcome is a very happy A-Level results day! Headmaster Richard James says, “I am extremely proud of the achievements of our Upper Sixth leavers and delighted that the girls are going to such a great mix of first class universities including Oxbridge. The girls will be studying a diverse range of subjects including languages, sciences, philosophy, politics and economics and our musicians and artists are also celebrating entry to top music and art colleges around the country”. St Mary’s girls show dedication and commitment to every aspect of school life and these excellent results are a clear indication of how hard they have worked in order to ensure the best possible start when they leave school. Richard James added, “I am delighted that the academic reputation of St Mary’s continues whilst allowing those with exceptional ability in the creative and performing arts to pursue their special talents. I am succeeded as Head in January by Mrs Mary Arnal, not only an academic herself but a lady of great faith with huge experience and a real commitment to independent education for girls. She joins me in congratulating the girls and is very excited about taking the school forward with this secure foundation of achievement”.
