The Sky’s the Limit for OSH Student James
Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 4th of February 2016
OSH Air Cadet James Kelly has been awarded his Private Pilot’s Licence at just 17 year of age. James is a member of the Sixth Form at Old Swinford Hospital and is currently studying Chemistry, Maths and Physics at A Level. He has been flying for just over three years, mainly in a Grob 115, which is the aircraft that RAF Cadets fly at RAF Cosford. To qualify for his PPL, James was put through a gruelling testing process including eight written theory exams and one practical radio exam. He also had to fly solo for 200 miles cross country landing at two separate airfields. His final test was to successfully demonstrate his flying skills to an examiner during a flight test and he completed various manoeuvres including taking off, landing, emergency procedures, diversions and navigation. James hopes to use his new licence to fly family and friends around the country. However, he is still committed to his long term goal of joining the RAF.
