OSH Gifted Organist Receives Help with Tuition

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 19th of April 2016

Congratulations to Old Swinford Hosptial pupil George Nicholls on receiving the 'Leonard Gibbons Fund’, through the Birmingham Organists’ Association, to help pay for organ tuition. 15 year old George has now been playing the organ for four years having originally been inspired by former OSH student William Peat, who is currently studying the organ at Gloucester Cathedral. George regularly receives organ tuition from freelance organist Paul Carr, who is particularly renowned for his eclectic programming, drawing on his extensive repertoire of organ literature and organ transcriptions. During the Easter holidays, George attended an organ scholar experience, organised by the Royal College of Organists at Hertford College, Oxford where he was given the wonderful opportunity to play at Evensong. George regularly accompanies the OSH choir and plays at school services. He is also the assistant organist at his home parish church. Look out for further details of an Organ Recital at Great Witley Church, Worcester on 30 July, where George will be providing a varied programme of music. George is currently studying for his GCSEs and hopes to gain an organ scholarship and read music at Oxford, after finishing his A-Levels at OSH.
