St John's boys' success at the National Intermediate Maths Challenge

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 28th of April 2016

St John’s Beaumont School were delighted to take part once again in the national Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC) on 4th February 2016. This challenge is written for pupils aged 14 and upwards and provides a very worthwhile challenge for all of our boys in Year 7 and 8. We were thrilled therefore this year once again to see so many boys winning bronze, silver and even gold awards. Typically, the highest scoring pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11 nationally are awarded certificates and this amounts to approximately 15% of the national cohort. Miss Murphy, Head of Maths, was very proud of the boys for their outstanding achievement, winning 20 awards. Seven of those winning awards were in Year 7, one of 118 very prestigious gold award was won by John Chang. Miss Murphy commented ‘It is wonderful to see the passion for numeracy and mathematics that runs through St John’s and these boys are only a small number of those who have made outstanding progress over the course of this year in the subject. We are really proud of them.’
