Improving Writing with Harry Potter

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 6th of May 2016

Pupils at St Benedict’s Junior School in Ealing enjoyed an unusual lesson in grammar, punctuation and composition when the Quantum Theatre visited on Wednesday 4th May to perform 'The Writing on the Wall'. Key Stage 1 children enjoyed a performance based around The Gruffalo and responded enthusiastically during the interaction parts. For Key Stage 2 the focus was Harry Potter. The children answered questions relating to the use of adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, similes and a host of other composition and grammar techniques all woven into a gripping narrative. Frances Rutherford, Head of English, commented: “I was very impressed with some of the suggestions from the floor. I am looking forward to seeing some of the skills learned demonstrated in the children's writing.”
