College swimmer to swim at the Olympics

Bishop’s Stortford College swimmer, Elinah Phillip, will be competing at the Olympics in Rio. Following the Olympic Trials in Glasgow during the Easter holidays, Elinah has been selected to represent the British Virgin Islands in the Women’s 50m Freestyle. This event will be taking place on Friday 12th August at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Elinah has been able to support her training as part of the College’s Elite Sports Programme. One of her College coaches, Deborah Huggett, commented, ‘We are immensely proud of Elinah. She’s worked so hard for this opportunity and we’re thrilled she’s made the team. It’s been a rocky path in terms of injuries and illness, but she’s overcome all obstacles and we wish her the very best for Rio.’ Television coverage of the swimming will commence at 7pm on 12th August, channel to be confirmed.
