Abbey Gate College A level students achieved the best results since 2011, with 69% obtaining a grade A* to B, a rise of 7.5% from last year. The co-educational school, based in Saighton outside Chester, also reported that almost 43% of grades achieved were A*/A. Well over half of all those who sat the exams achieved a B grade or higher in all subjects. Amongst those celebrating the results were twins Tom and Catherine Reid (pictured), who obtained three A*s and two A* and one A respectively. The twins from Upton will both be attending Oxford, Tom to read Mathematics and Catherine to read French and German. Other notable successes were Henry Meadows obtaining A* and three As who will be attending Bath University from September, Douglas Connor-Webb achieving two A*s and an A to study Social Sciences at Durham University, Patrick Regan with one A* and three As going on to study Physics at Sheffield University, as well as Tom Gideonse who obtained one A* and two As who will be reading Mathematics at Bristol University. Also keeping success in the family were twins Patrick and Tom Henderson who both earned two As and a B. Patrick will be reading Business Accounting and Finance at Newcastle University and Tom plans to join Reading University to study Investment and Finance in Property. Head Boy Barnaby Franklin and Head Girl Ellie Parker also had reason to celebrate with Barnaby gaining A*, A and B and Ellie achieving two As and a B. Georgina Croasdale achieved one A and two Bs at A level and was given an unconditional offer in 2015 to study Economics at Aston University after learning of her AS level grades and receiving glowing references from Abbey Gate College teachers. There was also cause to celebrate with the AS level results, with twins Andy and James Ayshford achieving identical grades with three As each. Sophie Bell earned four As as did Toby Stanford. Kieren Platts obtained three As. Headmistress Tracy Pollard said: “I am delighted with the fantastic results gained this year. Abbey Gate College recognises the promise in all its pupils and aims to help them reach their academic and personal potential. The level of commitment and dedication all our students have shown to their exams has been undeniable and this has paid off in the results. I’d also like to thank the teachers for their commitment throughout the school year. “The Upper Sixth pupils who will now be leaving us have been excellent role models to the younger pupils at Abbey Gate College during their time and we wish them all the very best of luck with their next steps in life, whether this is to study at university, start an apprenticeship or enter the world of employment.”
