Bishop’s Stortford College Students Awarded Prestigious Engineering Scholarships

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 22nd of November 2016

Two Bishop’s Stortford College students have received Arkwright Engineering Scholarships. Only 413 Arkwright Engineering Scholarships have been awarded nationally and every scholarship is sponsored, meaning that support is offered to scholars in a variety of ways; this can include hands-on work experience, support for A level projects, or a personal mentor to help scholars with their studies and career planning. The scholarships are open to pupils in Year 11 who intend to study STEM subjects, including maths, and who wish to pursue a career in engineering, technical design or computing. This year, Lower Sixth students Chris Wilkin and Holly Radbourne are the recipients of these prestigious awards. Chris has received a scholarship sponsored by engineering consultancy Arup, and Holly will be sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Paviours, a City of London livery company. John Trant, Head of Design and Technology at the College comments; “Both Holly and Chris beat off strong competition for their places during a highly challenging selection process which included an assessed online application form, a two hour technical design exam and a selection interview.” The Design and Technology department at Bishop’s Stortford College has a strong record of success with the Arkwright Scholarship scheme, with recent past scholars going on to study Engineering at the University of Cambridge and Surveying at the University of Reading. Current Upper Sixth Arkwright Scholar, Edward James, is applying to read Design Engineering at Imperial College, London. The College is extremely proud of Chris and Holly and wish them the best of luck with their studies.
