Bishop’s Stortford College – A Top 100 School for Cricket

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 21st of December 2016

Bishop’s Stortford College has been named as one of the top 100 schools for cricket by The Cricketer magazine. Launched in 2015, the A-Z guide to cricket’s top 100 schools, The Playing Fields of England, is available in the December issue of The Cricketer. Inclusion in this guide is a major achievement for the College which was pitched against 250 other school submissions, from both the independent and state sectors. All were matched against an exhaustive set of criteria, with the schools chosen having outstanding cricket programmes, including facilities, coaching, inspiration and more. The Cricketer deputy editor, Huw Turbervill, said, “We hope this is a wonderful insight into schools’ cricket, serving not only as an informative guide but as a tribute to all the teachers and coaches who are nurturing the talents of future club, county and international cricketers. I have been lucky enough to visit several games this summer, and the standard of cricket has been very high.” Matt Drury, Head of Cricket at the College said, “This is a tremendous honour for the College and we’re delighted to be in such auspicious company. Our inclusion is down, in part, to the dedication and commitment of the coaching team, grounds staff and of course, the pupils. Our Elite Sports Programme also supports our cricketers throughout the year – not just in the Summer term where tradition dictates our fixtures are played, but throughout the Autumn and Spring terms too. Cricket is played in all sections of the College, from Pre-Prep upwards and is an all year round sport here.” As well as appearing in print in the world’s No.1 cricket magazine, the guide is hosted at www.thecricketer.com, and is also available as a free digital download via The Cricketer app.
