Children and young people with disabilities in North Derbyshire are set to benefit from a £2,000 donation.

Kind hearted students at Mount St Mary's College raised the money for the Fairplay charity by organising casual dress days and guess the number or weight competitions.

Fairplay, which is based in Chesterfield, works to improve opportunities for children and young people with disabilities and their families.

Tony Duly, Fairplay representative said: 'Our thanks go to Mount St Mary's for choosing Fairplay and its generosity in raising this sum of money. We are extremely grateful for the support and look forward to working with Mount St Mary's for many years to come.'

A number of youngsters involved with the Fairplay project enjoyed activities including swimming and a bouncy castle at Mount St Mary's this summer, which were organised as part of the school's Children's Holiday Week.

Mr Laurence McKell, headmaster at Mount St Mary's, who presented the cheque for £2,000, said: 'Fairplay is a great local charity, doing really tremendous work and we are pleased to support them. Our pupils take part in a lot of charity work during the school year.

'Supporting charitable causes is a central part of the school's ethos and this donation and the involvement of the sixth form in the holiday week demonstrates this commitment.'
