Eleven Bishop’s Stortford College swimmers competed in the Bath and Otter Cup at the London Aquatics Centre on Friday 10th March. Each team reached the final in the event in which they competed – something which the College has never before achieved. Competing against 66 other schools, the girls’ freestyle team finished 25th in their heat which saw them through to the final of the Aldenham Cup for small schools. They swam even faster in the final, finishing in 6th place. The boys, competing against 81 other schools in their first relay event finished in 37th place, also qualifying for the final of the Aldenham Cup. They ultimately finished 10th. The afternoon saw the College swimmers competing in the medley relays; 50m lengths of each stroke. The competition was fierce, 66 teams in the girls’ event and 80 in the boys’. Both College teams once again made the final, this time competing for the Dunelm Cup for small schools. This was the first time that the girls had ever made this final, finishing in 7th place. The boys’ team finished in 8th. Lady of the Match was awarded Sixth Form student Amarah P. who fought to make up five metres, beating her neighbouring lane by just 0.01 of a second in the medley relay. Deborah Huggett, Head of Swimming commented, “All our swimmers swam exceptionally well. We are extremely proud of their achievement and making the finals in all four events for the first time ever is excellent.”
