Back in November 2017 Bishop’s Stortford College pupil, Alex Povey, was selected to join the London Pulse U17 Development Netball Squad after being put forward for a trial at the West Hub in Kensington by her Harlow based, Crosskeys Club. London Pulse Netball is part of a number of Vitality Netball Super Leagues that are spread throughout the UK. Netball at this level is part of the player pathway towards representing England. After a rigorous try-out where Alex had to demonstrate not only her strength and agility, but also an extensive knowledge of netball, she was 1 of just 20 talented players selected for a place in the team who age from 14 to 17. Since then Alex has been making a weekly journey to Kensington, after school, for intense training sessions with London Pulse’s top coaches. As the netball season continues, Alex will play against other Pulse Hubs and eventually trial for the London Pulse Elite U17/U19 squads. Melanie Boulton, Hertfordshire County Coach and Talent Scout for England Netball said, "Alex has achieved so much in such a short time. As an U15 she is one of the youngest members of her academy. We wish her further success in her quest to join the U17/U19 Elite squads and hope to see her selected to attend the England Roses Academy in the future." Netball is one of the five core girls’ sports at Bishop’s Stortford College. Alex is also supported by the College's Elite Sports Programme.
