Gresham's invited to perform with classical vocal group Blake

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 4th of October 2011

Gresham's is delighted that its Senior School Choir will be performing alongside classical 'boyband' Blake in a Royal British Legion concert held at Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 8th October 2011. Mixing eclectic classical and pop songs with rich harmony vocals, Blake have earned critical and popular acclaim in recent years, securing a Number One album in the UK Classical Album Chart and the coveted Brit Award for Album of the year for their self-titled debut album 'Blake'.

The School was afforded the honour of being expressly requested by the band to feature alongside them in the concert, a virtue not only of Gresham's impressive choral tradition and reputation, but also of its close connection with the band itself; tenor Humphrey Burney is a native of Norfolk and an Old Greshamian, making the collaboration between the choir and the band particularly special. The concert features as one of a series of concerts performed throughout the country throughout 2011 in celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Royal British Legion, and the School is therefore thrilled to be participating in such a prestigious and worthy occasion.
