Published on isbi School News dated Monday 12th of October 2020

Belmont School launched the first stage of its new Science facilities today as part of the School’s ongoing development plans. The new facilities are in addition to the existing Science laboratory and provide Belmont pupils with a new Chemistry laboratory and preparation area. A Biology facility is to follow.

Mrs Skrine, Headmistress comments, “2020 is the start of our exciting plans as we extend our education provision from 13 to 16 years. In September, we welcomed our first Year 9 cohort who will be the first year group to sit their GCSEs in 2023. We are delighted to be expanding our facilities in readiness for this and the new Chemistry laboratory and preparation area are the first in a line of developments taking place. The next project will be a new Design Technology suite, which is due for completion by January 2021.”

Mr Benton, Head of Science, says “We are delighted with the addition of the new laboratory and equipment, which will lead to improved opportunities for GCSE Science.”

The first year group to have a lesson in the laboratory was Year 6 who conducted an experiment to see if certain foods contained fat, whilst Year 7 were treated to a tour of the new prep room at the beginning of their Science lesson.
