Language and Culture Day 2021

Published by Stroud School, King Edward VI Preparatory on Thursday 25th of November 2021

On Tuesday 9 November, Stroud School held its Language and Culture Day.

Held every two years, the aim of this day is to promote language, culture and civilisations. The focus of the day was  Portuguese, Chinese Mandarin and Japanese languages, however, the school also ran some fantastic activities that touched on other cultures, such as Italian,  French, German and Sign Language.

During the day, the children enjoyed many cross-curricular events and activities based on different cultural traditions. Origami sessions were enjoyed by all and of course Latin American Dancing, such as Samba, Tango and’ Paso Doble’.

Stroud is very keen to expose its pupils to different languages. The School believes that a greater language learning experience leads to the development of the skills and confidence needed for children to perceive themselves as ‘Global Citizens’. Stroud School believes it is paramount that children are given the opportunity to become multi-lingual as the immersion in a foreign culture can open new avenues of self-exploration and personal growth.

"Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow" (Oliver Wendell Holmes).
