Hetty Awarded Place In National Youth Training Choir

Published by Bedford Modern School on Tuesday 18th of January 2022

Year 11 student Hetty Franklin has been successful in securing a place in the National Youth Training Choir (NYTC), a part of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. This prestigious organisation runs five auditioned choirs for young people which give outstanding performances around the UK.

The NYTC is for boys and girls aged 15-18 and serves as a training ground for talented young singers such as Hetty to refine their musical skills. The group performs a diverse repertoire, and its members get the chance to collaborate with guest artists and musicians on residential courses. Hetty will be going on two such week-long courses a year.

Hetty underwent eight days of online auditions in the October half term, alongside around 100 other auditionees. She commented: “It was nerve-wracking because it’s such a big choir, but they were really impressed with my musical achievements and said that we must have a very strong music department.”

Hetty has a strong interest in music both in and outside of BMS and has recently earned her School Colours for her dedication and enthusiasm for everything she is involved with in the music department.

Director of Music, Mary Perry, said: “Hetty is a wonderful all-round musician and is very involved in the co-curricular programme that we run at BMS. She is not only a singer with our Groove Collective, jazz ensemble and school choirs, but she plays the trumpet in our brass group, orchestra and Big Band. Her contributions are valued and her success in gaining a place in the National Youth Training Choir is very well deserved.”
