Y6 Natural History Museum Trip 2022

Published by Dolphin School on Tuesday 29th of November 2022

On Tuesday, Year 6 went to the Natural History Museum for a shared Science and Geography trip. In the morning we visited the Invertebrates, Birds and Mammals galleries where the children were encouraged to work independently to find the answers to various questions about each of these groups of animals. Using the displays, they discovered facts about these animals; from identifying the biggest crustacean in the world, to finding out about how flies feed, and gathering information about how animals have evolved and adapted to their environment. In Science, the children will use some of the information they have gathered to write an essay about Crustaceans.

In the afternoon, we headed to the Earth galleries to find out about how and where earthquakes occur and what can be done to defend ourselves against them. The children also got the chance to experience what it feels like to be in a real earthquake in the earthquake simulator room. The children were fascinated by the displays and would like to have had the chance to see more of them.
