Multiple Podium Finishes for Gymnasts at IAPS Nationals

Published by Davenies on Tuesday 29th of November 2022

The perseverance and enthusiasm of our gymnastics squad earned them podium finishes in all categories at the IAPS Nationals, as well as Mishay taking home the U9 National Gymnastics title.

Fresh from the success of the gymnastics squads at the ISGA Championships last weekend, the IAPS squads competed at the Nationals in Kent, where four Davenies teams competed (three for the IAPS and one for the ISGA under 14’s). Many boys competed above their actual age group, which is testament to all the hard work they have put in.

The Under 9 team was lead by Mishay; his vault was effortless with a “stuck” landing. The floor routine was graceful and clean, picking up a few bonuses for some of the trickier skills. Alfie competed a brand new vault for a higher start value, which bumped his score up gaining an individual medal. For Alfie, Rex, Ethan and Clement this was their first gymnastics competition. The Under 9 team took silver and Alfie came 6th individually. Mishay was also awarded the silver plate, making him the Under 9 National Champion for IAPS. Congratulations to them all.

The U11s had tough competition as there were six teams, drawing second place with St George’s school in Weybridge. Matty picked up 6th place in the individual competition, which is a credit to his precision. Seb, having overcome his recent challenge on the vault, to competed a competent squat through.

The Under 13 IAPS team, made up of Connor, Jesse, Ed and Harry, had to vault over a whopping 120cm! Both Connor and Jesse flew over the vault and secured a solid landing. Harrison, whose first time it was competing at national level, kept his cool to execute a strong vault. The Under 13 team came 2nd overall; individually, there were medals for Connor, who came 6th, and Jesse who came 5th.

With his wealth of competition experience, Connor captained the U14 group. His vault scored a huge 9.00 out of 9.5 which is commendable! Jonathan improved on his floor routine starting by stretching and keeping his legs tight. This group came 2nd in the team competition. Individually, Jonathan came 6th and Connor 5th.

Davenies placed 2nd in every age category for the team competition. They also placed in the top six for every age group, as well as holding a national title for Mishay for the Under 9 section.

The boys have worked so hard, which they will build on this for the future. Many congratulations to them all!
