Published by Dean Close School (St Johns) on Monday 10th of October 2022

Fantastic news from our Sports department! Dean Close St John's Under 11 girls went up to Rugby School to take part in the first IAPS Small Schools Hockey Tournament, and came home victorious! HIGHLIGHTS Played 3 group games, scored 8 goals conceded 0! The Oratory School, we won 2-0 The Elms, we drew 0-0 Mount Kelly, we won 5-0 Dean Close St John's went in to the quarter final round to play Hatherop Castle School. We had a shaky start but our defensive duo of Maddie and Lyra held strong and HCS couldn’t deal with our attacking pressure. We won 2-0. The semi- final saw us play Mount Kelly again and the girls couldn’t get complacent having beaten them in the group game. St. John’s held strong, and fantastic goals from Eliza, Lara, Maisie and Millie saw us take the win 4-0. The girls were on a roll now and ready for the final. They were to play The Oratory again and knew it wasn’t going to be easy. A nervy start saw our keeper, Olivia, make her first save of the tournament. We grew in confidence and had 75% possession, Maisie scoring a great goal from the top of the ‘D’ after intercepting a pass from them. We won the game 1-0 and were crowned champions. A particular mention to Maisie who was also awarded ‘Player of the tournament’. A brilliant effort by all the girls who we are very proud of! Very well done!
