Scottish Schools Indoor Rowing Finals

Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 1st of December 2022

It was great to be back rowing in the first live competition since 2019. This year’s competition was hosted by Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow. There was a tremendous atmosphere right from the start and it was clear that the standard was as high as previous years. In the first race Louis M gave us a Bronze medal in the S2 Boys category. In one of the fastest races of the day, next to medal was Fergus P who took gold in the S5 Boys category, followed by Sophie G who came a very close second in the S6 Girls’ race, and Orla D just being pushed out of the medals into 4th place. Other results of note were the S6 Boys who took 4th, 5th 6th and 7th place in their final – again, just outside the medals; and Edgar F-W (S3 Boys) and Alice N, (S4 Girls) both of whom came in 6th place.

The Team Relay events are always a competitive end to the day, and we exceeded all past performances here, with 2 Silver Medals (S6 Boys and S6 Girls), 4 Bronze Medals (S2 Boys, S4 Boys, S5 Girls and S6 Girls) and a 4th place with the S4 Girls.

Mr Davies, Teacher of Physics, i/c Rowing says “Overall it was a fantastic day with 3 Individual medals and 6 Team medals being won. The standard was very high with several Scottish and GB Squad members racing. The Fettes squad represented the College in exemplary form, in their commitment and their conduct, and produced a total of 25 individual new personal bests, which is simply astonishing and testament to their determination to race right to the line. The students were a credit to themselves and has whetted their appetites for next year.”
