Published on isbi School News dated Thursday 9th of February 2012

The quality of performance was outstanding at the recent Spring Concert. This evening showcased a selection of the fine work which takes part in the Music Department throughout the academic year.

Instrumental and vocal ensembles delighted the capacity audience which packed into Great Hall and the Chapel to enjoy an evening of high quality music. The depth of musical variety offered was of particular note but it was the sheer enjoyment which exuded from all performers which made the evening so special and memorable.

Fine performances were heard from The Senior Orchestra, Jazz Hands Saxophone Ensemble, Year 7 Band, the Clarinet Group and Jazz Band which included an outstanding own composition by clarinettist Josh. (Jazz Band can also be heard in concert at Shirley Methodist Church on Thursday 1st March 1:10pm 2:00pm), Other highlights included the String Quartet as well as great string duets from Ignacio and Amirah and stunning playing from Paige and Owen who, along with outstanding continuo players Mr Christopher Dowie and Mr Will Bass (Cello) , welcomed our new harpsichord to the department by performing Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Violins. Mr Owens delighted everyone as our special guest solo guitarist.

Other highlights included Mr Bell's Singing Group performing Hail Holy Queen from Sister Act and Miss O'Hanlon's Vocal Quartet singing an arrangement Albinoni's Adagio. The Chamber Choir delighted the audience with outstanding singing, as did the Barbershop and the evening ended with a most professional sound from the combined choirs singing Chilcott's Londonderry Air, Allegri Miserere and Handel's Zadok the Priest. A truly memorable and outstanding evening.
