Millfield Student Praised In Prestigious Academic Competition

A Millfield student has been recognised for her essay for a prestigious academic essay competition, titled 'You are what you eat - to what extent is this true?'Louisa Bingham was commended for her submission to the Immerse Education essay competition explored the effects food has on a person. As a result of her submission, Louisa was offered a scholarship to study at Oxford Medical summer school.
The annual competition that gives students aged between 13-18 the opportunity to submit an essay to a pre-set question based on the subject of choice. Winners of the competition receive scholarships to attend summer schools at Oxford, Cambridge, London and Sydney.
Louisa is a day student from Glastonbury who joined Millfield Prep in Year 9. Louisa is currently studying the subjects History, Drama and French as well as English, Maths and Additional Maths for her GCSE’s. She entered the essay during the summer break, “I was inspired to write this essay as I felt it was important to extend my academics outside of the classroom and find external opportunities.” Louisa recalled lessons in Biology to help her write the essay, “I found that while writing my essay I needed to do lots of research however the content I had learnt from lessons, in particular biology made understanding what I was reading easier.”
After receiving feedback from Immerse Education Louisa said, “I was very proud of myself when I found out that I had won as there were thousands of entrants from all around the world. I love that Millfield offers a diverse range of education that has allowed me to become well rounded and have the confidence to find external opportunities to enhance my academics.”
