Ryde's Brand New Cookery School

Published by Ryde School with Upper Chine on Monday 12th of December 2022

Welcome to the Ryde Cookery School!
Our brand new purpose-built cookery room boasts eight kitchen stations and a demonstration kitchen at the front. The space has been designed to be ergonomic and practical with high tech cameras built into the ceilings which film the demonstration kitchen. They also offer a birds eye view of the preparation and plating station, linked up to large TV screens which live stream the best view so the students can easily see up-close what their cookery teacher is demonstrating.

Ryde has been chosen as a pilot school for the Leiths Academy new school-based courses. Leiths School of Food and Wine trained Anja Lengersdorf heads up the Cookery School and works in close partnership with Leiths, commenting it is a pleasure to be able to teach this programme to our students.

Our current Lower Sixth Form students (pictured) who chose to take up cookery sessions this year are all being taught the Leiths course and are assessed once per term by a member of Leiths Academy who come to check the pilot programme. At the end of this course, the Lower Sixth Form students will be awarded a Leiths School of Food and Wine Certificate which could be useful for gap year sailing and ski placements for example but more importantly the start of a lifelong love for cooking.

These practical cookery classes offer valuable life skills and are so popular that all enrichment CAS sessions are already fully booked.
