Student Inspires Generation of Female Chemists

Published by Brentwood School on Monday 12th of December 2022

Congratulations to Brentwood School Upper Sixth Chemistry student, Jessica Lai, whose research paper on the capture and conversion of carbon dioxide, has been accepted for publication.

The literature review, which 17-year-old Jessica and her two co-authors worked on throughout the summer, formed part of the Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials (CEAM) 2022 conference.

Jessica was unable to attend the conference, which was held in China earlier this month, but her paper will be published both physically and electronically in six months time. She explained: “I wanted to write this paper because I’ve always wanted to help ease the air pollution and smog issue back in China.”

Dr Nicholas Law, Head of Chemistry at Brentwood School, said: “Jessica’s literature review is certainly no mean feat for someone who is still studying in high school. Her achievement is truly inspirational for other girls her age.”
