ACS International School Egham Student Finalist At Independent Schools Of The Year 2022 Award For Colour Blindness Solution

A student from ACS International School Egham has been announced as a finalist in the Rising Star category at the Independent School of the Year 2022 awards for his initiative to raise awareness of colour blindness.

The budding Grade 11 Rising Star, Connor, launched his initiative to provide practical colour blind solutions by testing students and introducing special colour blindness glasses for them to use. Through his project, Connor, who is red and green colour vision deficient, established a relationship with EnChroma; creators of glasses for colour blindness and providers of an online colour blindness test. Supported by the ACS partnerships team, Connor rolled out the test to Lower School students (aged 4-11); of the 55 students tested, four tested positive for colour vision deficiency, with parents and teachers now being provided with advice and tools to adjust the students’ learning accordingly.

Mark Wilson, Head of School at ACS Egham, said: “We are thrilled that Connor has been recognised at the Independent Schools of the Year 2022 awards and are so proud of his achievements. To have a rising star in our ranks is hugely exciting for the school and showcases exactly how we enable children to become the drivers of their own success. We are looking forward to attending the awards ceremony and will all be cheering for Connor.”

As well as introducing his initiative to another ACS campus next year – ACS International School Hillingdon – Connor also plans to expand testing to the rest of ACS Egham’s students and hopes his project will be the start of a much bigger movement across ACS campuses, its partner schools and other IB schools.
