Royal Russell School Annual Ski Trip - February 2012

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 2nd of March 2012

Over February half term, 30 excited students and 5 intrepid staff set off for the now annual pilgrimage to the Rocky Mountains, and a new resort for Royal Russell - Brighton, just 30 minutes from our Salt Lake City base.

Crowded slopes, surly staff and long queues for chair lifts awaited all those who headed for the Alps, but none of these things are ever an issue in the US. Two smooth flights - and some acclimatisation shopping (naturally) -later, five days of faultless skiing on fresh powder followed. The ski school was second to none, and even the beginners were spotted hurtling through the terrain park by the end of the week. A more relaxed aprs ski programme that included some ice hockey (and more shopping) proved popular, as did the wonderful night skiing - a first for most - and the customary hospitality of all the locals.

Everyone made it back in one piece; a little tired, yes, a little fitter, certainly (even Mr Baron) - and all desperate to book for 2013! Many thanks to the wonderful staff who made the trip run so smoothly, and to the students, whose good humour and consideration for others made the trip so enjoyable. Lots of HD helmetcam footage is currently being edited into this year's montage: watch this space...
