Celebrating 100 Years Of Our School

Published by Claremont Fan Court School on Wednesday 21st of September 2022

September marks the first month of the new academic year but it also marks the first month celebrating our 100th year as a school. We will be celebrating 100 years of excellence with a number of events over the course of the year but to mark the start of the celebrations, school captains, headteachers, our bursar and the head of development came together at the start of term to raise our centenary flag.

The school was originally founded 100 years ago from the back of Mrs Packers house in Norwood London with just 8 pupils, becoming Clear View School when the school moved to a new home in September 1922. By 1930 the school had expanded to 45 pupils at which point the directors purchased Claremont mansion and grounds and changed the school’s name to match in 1931. After the outbreak of war in 1939, Claremont School was evacuated to Llandrindod Wells and the mansion was leased to the Hawker Aircraft company from 1940-46 under the leadership of Sir Sydney Camm.

In 1978, Claremont School amalgamated with Fan Court School, originally based in Longcross, Surrey to form a co-educational school for 3-18 year-olds, becoming Claremont Fan Court School. Over our 100 years Claremont Fan Court School has grown from 8 students in 1922 to over 1,100 today!

We are looking forward to celebrating this momentous year with you all. Please do take the time to visit the school website and explore our newly added centenary pages where you can find out more on upcoming centenary events, charity work planned for the year, watch and listen to the very special ‘100 voices’ page, a new school archive site and purchase Claremont Fan Court School centenary goods.
