Introducing The Boys' Contemporary Dance Company

Published by Dauntsey's on Thursday 20th of April 2023

This year marked the formation of a Boys’ Contemporary Dance Company at Dauntsey’s and at the end of the Spring Term the Company took to the stage for their first performance, Delirium.

Delirium, directed and choreographed by Matthew Herring, explored the themes of friendships, passion and betrayal in an intense and gripping manner.

This production had been in the works since last May, after a number of Lower School boys had shown interest in the vision.  Starting with just a few members, the group steadily grew to six dancers who not only worked on their technique, but were also involved in the choreography.

As with all productions, it is not just what happens on the stage, but what happens behind the scenes that can add to the overall success of a performance.  The Tech Crew played an instrumental role in ensuring that the lighting and sound were spot on, with some audience members saying the lighting was some of the best they had seen at a Dauntsey’s production.

I am so proud of all six members of the company who took to the stage in the Mem Hall with confidence and pride.  Each and every boy played such an integral role in making Delirium the success that it was and my particular thanks to Cory and William for their fantastic contribution.  As a Company we are already looking ahead to next year and look forward to being back on stage with our next production! - Mr Herring
