Caterham School U15 Lacrosse Team Reach National Semi Finals

Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 28th of March 2012

On 6 March Caterham School U15 lacrosse team competed in the National Schools Tournament.

The day started with the knock out matches against King's Canterbury, Claremont, Bolton, Berkhamsted and Wycombe Abbey. They won the first four matches, scoring seven goals in each match, but lost 5-3 against Wycombe Abbey. However, the results were sufficient to take them through to the play offs.

They defeated Downe House 7-3 to reach the quarter finals for a match against Moreton Hall, who had topped their section. Caterham School won a very competitive match 1-0 to reach the semi finals where they met keen rivals, Guildford High School.

The teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of regular time and so the semi final went into extra time. Unfortunately, Guildford showed great skill to score quickly and then keep possession.

Guildford High therefore progressed to the final where they lost to St Catherine's, another South Schools rival.

Francesca Adams scored 21 goals and 1 assist, whilst Robyn Hunt-Williams scored 9 goals with 4 assists. The rest of the goals were scored by 5 other players, proving that it was a real team effort. Sarah Slater achieved 8 turnovers and Jojo Upward made 12 excellent saves.

Mrs Nat Lomas, Head of Girls Games, said: 'This was an excellent, sustained performance by the whole squad and I am delighted at the way they remained positive and focussed during all their matches. They played with great skill and commitment.'
