Published on isbi School News dated Wednesday 28th of March 2012

On 3 March three Caterham School students won the London & South East regional final of the British School Karting Championship.

Ben Dillon (Upper Sixth), Alex Jobson (Upper Sixth) and Ivan May-Jones (Fifth Year) were competing against eighteen schools in difficult driving conditions with wet weather changing to dry. It was a very close decision because, when the points were calculated, Caterham School were tied with Felsted School but Caterham were declared champions because they had two 1st places compared to none for Felsted. The two 1st places were secured by Ivan May-Jones, Alex Jobson achieved a 5th and 7th and Ben Dillon a 2nd and 8th.

This year the championship consisted of 225 schools entering 617 teams and the Caterham School team will now compete against 34 teams in the National Final on 1st April at Daytona Milton Keynes.

Ben Dillon said: 'We came second in the Regional Finals last year and the standard of competition was even higher this year. It was a real team effort to secure the points and Ivan did extremely well to take two 1st places. The weather conditions were poor and because the karts belong to the circuit it takes some time to adjust, so it was a steep learning curve for us all.'
