RMS Students Receive Impressive A Level Results

Published by The Royal Masonic School for Girls on Thursday 17th of August 2023

The RMS Sixth Form centre was buzzing with excitement today as our class of 2023 achieved an exceptional set of results, with 74% obtaining A* to B grades.

The majority of this year’s cohort will be heading off to their first-choice universities to study a fascinating variety of courses, including; Veterinary Medicine, Production Arts, Environment and Sustainable Development, Politics and International Relations and Broadcasting and Media Systems Engineering.

Popular destinations this year include Cambridge, RVC (Royal Veterinary College), RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), LSE, Kings College London, Cardiff, Leeds, and the BBC.

RMS’ value-added puts us in the top 10% of schools nationally and the top 13% of independent schools nationally.

Headteacher, Kevin Carson, was delighted with the results and commented:

“I could not be more proud of the class of 2023 at RMS, as I am of all of their teachers and of our support staff. For almost half of all grades to be A* and A is always exceptional, never more so than in this year with the significant shifts in grade boundaries.

Our Oxbridge students and medics were all successful, and there are many success stories with students heading to conservatoires, scholarships, and commencing BBC apprenticeships too.

I wish our students, their parents, and their teachers and support staff a great day (and night) of celebrating truly wonderful examination results.”

While the press have told a tale of gloom, this cohort of RMS students attained higher grades than in the three years before the pandemic which is testament to their hard work, tremendous character and their RMS spirit

- Kevin Carson, Headteacher
Head of Sixth Form, Clare Freeman, was equally as thrilled:

“This cohort of students have shown the greatest resilience over the course of the last two years and have done exceptionally well. Whilst most people would relish the opportunity not to take exams, this group of students’ lack of experience in taking exams at GCSE does not seem to have affected their ability to succeed.

As Head of Sixth Form I have watched them turn into confident, conscientious and determined young women who know what they want and what they need to do to achieve it. For RMS students those desires and ambitions are wide ranging and we very much celebrate every single student no matter what the next part of that journey looks like.

For some of these students, they have faced exceptional challenges, but these girls have adapted, been flexible in their approach and ultimately succeeded.”It goes without saying that I am incredibly proud and look forward to hearing stories from each of them as they return as alumnae to give advice and support to our future RMS students- Clare Freeman, Head of Sixth Form
