Big Orchestral Day 2023

The joyful sound of music resounded once again from the Bowerman Hall as almost 100 musicians joined together for our Big Orchestral Day, celebrating 50 Years of Disney. This was an amazing opportunity for our Senior School students to welcome younger musicians from the Prep School and beyond, who took part in an inspiring sit-alongside session with Monkton's amazing Senior Orchestra.

Celebrating Disney's centenary, musicians from Freshford and Combe Down Primaries, as well as All Hallows and Monkton Prep joined our 45 Senior musicians to perform the following hits from three classic films:

'I Wanna Be Like You' - The Jungle Book

'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' - Mary Poppins

'Colours of the Wind' - Pocahontas

For an extra 'zing' of excitement, our Senior Orchestra performed Mussorgsky’s 'Night on a Bare Mountain' (featured in Fantasia) for our younger, rather wowed and open-mouthed guests. Staff and parents of the participating pupils were invited to view the concert from our balcony, with a bird's eye view of the hall filled with talented musicians. It was a privilege to join forces and share our facilities with local schools, resulting in a truly special day of inspiring music-making for all.
