It is a huge achievement for Ben, who has worked so hard in his free time, frequently travelling to New Lanarkshire College, in Glasgow, to complete intensive CAD training
Ben began studying CAD during his DT GCSE. This continued into Sixth Form when he completed a Level 7 SQA in Advanced CADD, alongside a DT A’Level.
During his Sixth Form he was entered into a national competition - Inspiring Skills Wales.
This eventually led to him being selected to represent Wales in the category of Mechanical Engineering: CAD. After winning silver medal at the finals Ben was asked to join the WorldSkills UK Team and subsequently the EuroSkills UK Team.
Ben describes Mr Martin O’Leary our Head of DT and CAD, as a mentor.
He said: "I am very grateful to Martin O'Leary who started me on this journey to represent the UK at EuroSkills 2023.
“Martin is an amazing teacher and was an invaluable and inspiring mentor for me; he has supported and encouraged me throughout my journey.”
Ben has just moved to Inverness to begin a mechanical engineering degree.
His ultimate goal is to have a career in CAD, designing mountain bike frames and components. Well done Ben and good luck in Inverness! We hope you’re enjoying the mountain biking up there.
