Stroud School Celebrates Florence Nightingale

Published by King Edward VI Preparatory on Thursday 18th of January 2024

Dressed as Victorian nurses and soldiers, the children made lanterns, packed their case for the Crimea and investigated artefacts from her lifetime. Mrs Andrews, dressed as Florence Nightingale said: “We have had a fantastic day, bringing history to life.”

In the afternoon, the classrooms were turned into a hospital from the time of Florence Nightingale and the young 'nurses' tended to the injured soldiers, reading to them by lamp light and writing letters using a quill and ink.

Mrs Walton, Head of Pre-Prep, says: “Children learn so much more from experiencing at first hand. It was wonderful to see the awe and wonder in the children’s reactions to activities throughout the day.”
