Students at BMS are celebrating another fantastic set of GCSE results today, despite the return to pre-pandemic levels nationally. They show an increase in the top grades awarded compared to 2019 with an impressive 21% marked at grade 9 and more than two thirds at 9-7.
Four students attained grade 9s in all ten subjects they sat and two of them, Afsheen and Dheethya also achieved a 9 in further maths and A*s in their Higher Project Qualifications (HPQ).
Clearly delighted with her results, Afsheen said: “It’s hard to believe and quite a surprise but I am ecstatic! I now plan to take A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Geography and am considering a degree in Medicine as my next step.”
Dheethya was equally pleased with her clean sweep of top grades and commented: “I am over the moon. I worked hard but would really like to thank my teachers for their dedication. I’m now looking forward to studying Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry in the Sixth Form.”
Acting Head, Andrew Whomsley, added: “It’s been a privilege to see this cohort of students develop and thrive, and to witness just how hard they have worked to obtain this excellent set of results. This is despite a challenging few years which were disrupted by COVID-19 and during which time they had to choose their GCSE options. We have never underestimated the impact this has had on them as they were forced to study online and stay isolated from their peers. These young people have done themselves proud and I could not be more delighted for them.
