New Students Gain Prized Berets

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 17th of October 2023

New students who joined the School this term, wore their prized uniform berets for the first time at a special annual ceremony – one of the most important events of the academic year.

The annual tradition, Beret Parade, takes place once Year 7 students have completed a period of parade training after joining the School in September. While regular school uniform is worn most of the time, the beret is an essential part of each student’s ceremonial No.1 Dress (Blues) worn at ceremonial parades.

Due to inclement weather, the Principal Alex Foreman presented berets in the School Chapel, assisted by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mark Ellis and Regimental Sergeant Major David Russell.

Receiving the beret is the start of a student’s career as a Dukie and the many opportunities this presents throughout life.

Alex Foreman said: “Our military ceremonies remind us of our heritage and ethos, which helps develop character and life skills. Wearing the beret on parade for the first time is a proud moment, signifying the importance of starting careers as Dukies and the life-long honour this bestows.”
