Latymer Girls Head to Henley

Published by Latymer Upper School on Tuesday 26th of June 2012

Following a highly successful National Schools' Regatta held at the end of May, Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith eagerly anticipates the Henley Royal Regatta which takes place from 27th June 1st July.

The Latymer girls, rowing in a Quad, are amongst the first schoolgirls ever to be allowed to compete in Henley Royal Regatta in its 173 year history, going back to the first regatta in 1839. Only eight crews from around the world are allowed to compete in the new girls' event at Henley this year and Latymer beat the American champions and Lady Eleanor Holles School in qualifying to be one of the eight crews. The boat will be crewed by Rose Maxwell, Kate Griffiths, Schuyler Ritchie and Hester Odgers.

In addition, the Latymer boys' 1st VIII has qualified to compete on Wednesday at Henley Royal Regatta.

Latymer's girl rowers are having a great run of success. Latymer's younger female rowers, coached by Connie Pidoux, also had some success at Richmond Regatta on 23rd June. Year 10 pupils Amalie Couch, Georgia Hellard Timm, Helen Yang, Angelica Leach and Rose Margolis (cox) won the Under 15 Coxed Fours, and Year 11 pupils Bella Essex and Eden Portman won the Under 16 Double Sculls.
