Year 7 & 8 Trip To France

Published by St Paul's Cathedral School on Tuesday 31st of October 2023

Year 7 and 8 went to Burgundy, learning French with native speakers, acquiring new skills through the medium of French and visiting a variety of places.

On a treasure hunt through the ‘forêt de Morvan’ they learnt about the flora and fauna, the mining history and the hunting season. A trip to Vézelay included a town quiz and guided tour of the Basilica, and an afternoon at le Château de Bussy-Rabutin gave them a fascinating insight into the colourful past of its owner and how he upset Louis XIV.

One of their favourite tasks was shopping for their lunch at the market at Vermenton and then presenting their meal in French!  The final food challenge was to try snails that evening, and most did, and all survived! One of the other highlights of the trip this year was a visit to the medieval town of Flavigny where they make the sweets 'Anis de Flavigny' the children had a tour of the factory and were able to see the sweets being made, they were told the history behind the sweets which have been made to the same recipe since 1591. They were able to taste all 13 different flavours.

The staff would like to congratulate Year 7 and 8 on getting so much out of the trip and for being excellent ambassadors to the school.
