Published on isbi School News dated Monday 9th of July 2012

STUDENTS at Taunton School have been celebrating their successes as results for the IB Diploma Programme were published across the world.

Top scores included James Evry from Taunton with 43 points and Alice Jardine from Somerton with 40 out of a total of 45.

James will take up his place at Oxford University to read biology, while Alice is off to Bristol University to read English.

Other students pictured are Robin Evans with 38 points, Dan Rogers with 36 points plus Sam Newton and Jim Onyemenam, both with 35 points.

These students join nearly 5,000 others across the UK who received results on Thursday, as increasing numbers opt for the internationally respected qualification.

Headmaster John Newton said: "I am very pleased with the results.

"It equals our best years ever and means we have yet again beaten the world average of 30 points and the UK average of 32 points.

"Those who have achieved their IB Diploma today should feel confident that they are already a step ahead and uniquely placed to excel at university and beyond."

Taunton School has been offering the IB Diploma alongside its successful A-level programme since 2007, with past students having seen significant success at university.

Figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency show that a higher percentage of IB students achieve first class honours and that drop out rates are lowest among IB students.

Adrian Kearney, Region Director for the IB Europe, Middle East and Africa Region welcomed the school's results.

He said: "I want to congratulate students at Taunton School on their achievements.

"By providing critical thinking skills and a breadth of experience and knowledge, the IB Diploma Programme ideally prepares students for both higher education and the world of work.

"I would like to wish them the very best and look forward to hearing of their accomplishments"
