Careers Week

Published by St Lawrence College on Wednesday 19th of March 2025

At St Lawrence College, preparing students for their future is at the heart of everything we do. Our Careers Programme, led by our highly experienced Head of Careers, Michele Semlyen, is fully embedded into school life—from the Junior School through to the Senior School—ensuring that students develop a deep understanding of the wide range of education, employment, and training opportunities available to them. By equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need, we enable them to make ambitious, informed choices about their future.

This week, Careers took centre stage across the school in a series of exciting and insightful events. Mrs Semlyen led a dedicated Junior School assembly, introducing younger pupils to the world of work and sparking conversations about ambition, opportunity, and personal strengths. Later in the week, Junior School and Pre-Prep pupils welcomed a range of emergency services for an interactive and engaging session, providing a first-hand look at careers in public service.

Meanwhile, in the Senior School, students immersed themselves in a dynamic Careers Fair, featuring an impressive line-up of industry professionals, universities, and specialist institutions. From STEM and maritime careers to performing arts, dentistry, and psychiatry, students engaged directly with experts from organisations such as Border Force, Pfizer, the Army, the NHS, and leading universities, including UCL, the University of Birmingham, and Northeastern University. The event was filled with energy and enthusiasm, reinforcing the crucial links between academic learning, High Performance Learning (HPL) outcomes, and the skills required in today’s job market.

At St Lawrence College, we are committed to ensuring that every student leaves school equipped not only with strong academic foundations but also with the essential skills, resilience, and confidence to succeed in an ever-changing world. Through carefully planned careers education, we help students cultivate their strengths, develop workplace-ready skills, and make informed, aspirational decisions about their future.
