Fused Glass Workshop with Sue Thorne
Published by Christ College on Monday 7th of April 2025
Before the end of term, pupils in Year 10 and in the Sixth Form were privileged to take part in a workshop led by local glass artist Sue Thorne, designing and making fused glass panels.
Their designs will make valuable additions to their coursework projects. Our artists enjoyed having a vibrant selection of specialist glass to choose from and were excited to be able to get lots of hands on experience creating their pieces, experimenting with light and colour.
Sue was very generous in sharing her expertise and brought in a wide selection of her beautiful glasswork to show us and to demonstrate the possibilities of the medium. It was a very successful day, and the pupils all made imaginative, impressive compositions and learned a great deal. We are very lucky at Christ College to have a fully equipped glass studio and specialist kiln. The work is first fired in the kiln to fuse the pieces together and then Mrs Houghton guides pupils in the next stage of the project, painting the detail and tones in black before the glass goes in for two further firings.
Our thanks go to Sue for her time and sharing her knowledge with us. We look forward to seeing all the pieces completed next term.
