Chapel Choir Tour 2025

Published by Christ College on Wednesday 5th of March 2025

Friday

On Friday 21st February, the chapel choir left Christ College bright and early to make their way to Heathrow airport, excited to catch their flight to the incredible city of Budapest!

After arriving at their hotel and checking in to their rooms, they head out to Lakomativ Etterem for their first evening meal. It was a memorable experience with drinks arriving by model railway, and the resident string quartet enjoyed having our appreciative audience to play for!

Saturday

For their first full day in Budapest, our pupils visited the Liszt Museum where they had the opportunity to see Liszt’s collection of music, as well as his pianos. Here, they also enjoyed a concert of Liszt’s piano music.

Their next stop on this beautifully crisp sunny day, was the House of Hungarian Music, which opened in the City Park in 2022. It is a unique and complex institution of musical initiation and the venue for the country’s first comprehensive exhibition presenting the history of music.

In the afternoon, our pupils enjoyed the Szechenyi Thermal Baths, one of the larges spa baths in Europe, with 15 indoor baths and 3 grand outdoor pools. They then returned to Lakomativ Etterem for another delicious evening meal.

Sunday

On Sunday, they had their first opportunity to sing, beginning with Morning Mass at St Emerich Church. It was a little chilly inside the church, but they received a very warm welcome from a large congregation and a well-deserved applause at the end.

Afterwards, they enjoyed a boat cruise along the Danube, a fantastic way to take in the sights from another perspective, before heading to St Teresa of Avila Church to sing for Evening Mass. To end the day, our pupils enjoyed their evening meal at the wonderful Klauzal Café.

Monday

For their last full day in Budapest, our pupils began with a visit to a very special music shop, and then on to Buda for a guided tour of Fisherman’s Bastion and the area around Matthias Church, the most beautiful of all that were visited, where they performed an afternoon concert.

To end the day, they returned to Klauzal Café, reflecting on an incredible trip with unforgettable memories. Even more so for Ben and Neel, who celebrate seven years in the Chapel Choir, making this their third tour!

Tuesday

It was an early start for their last day, heading straight to the airport to catch their flight home. Huge thanks to Mr Cooper for organising and leading the tour, and to Mrs Owen and Mr Ling for supporting. We hope that all who took part will have fond memories of their time in Budapest.
