Old Culfordian, Tommy Freeman Selected for 2025 British and Irish Lions Squad

Culford School is immensely proud to celebrate the news that former pupil Tommy Freeman has been selected for the 2025 British and Irish Lions squad.

Freeman, who plays on the wing for Northampton Saints and England, first began his rugby journey at Culford Prep School in 2008, before progressing through to the Senior School and leaving in 2017. His exceptional talent was evident from an early age; representing the school with distinction at every age.

The 24-year-old winger/centre is now on the verge of two massive milestones with Northampton Saints. Freeman is just three games away from his 100th appearance in Black, Green and Gold, having made his debut as a teenager in September 2019. Additionally, he is just one try away from reaching 60 tries for the club, a landmark that would take him to 300 points.

Freeman’s recent form for club and country has been nothing short of remarkable. A run of scoring tries in ten consecutive games is book-ended by scores at the Aviva Stadium, starting with his effort for England against Ireland and his treble against Leinster most recently. His 2024/25 season has been his most prolific at Saints to date, crossing the try line 16 times, including a sensational hat-trick against Clermont Auvergne.

Internationally, Freeman has also made a huge impact, earning 20 caps for England since his debut in a 25-17 victory over Australia – the venue for the first Lions Test against the Wallabies on 19 July.

Tommy Freeman’s call-up to the British and Irish Lions squad is a landmark achievement in his career and a moment of immense pride for everyone at Culford School. Head of Rugby at Culford, Mark Bolton, expressed the school's pride, stating, “Tommy’s journey is an inspiration to all our young athletes. His hard work, humility and passion for the game have been clear since his days here at Culford. We are absolutely delighted to see him achieve such incredible success.”

As Tommy Freeman embarks on his next chapter with the British and Irish Lions, the entire Culford School community will be cheering him on, confident that he will continue to make his mark on the world stage.
