Empowering Young Minds with Jaspreet Kaur at Hallfield Insights

Published by Hallfield School on Friday 2nd of May 2025

As part of our Hallfield Insights series, we were delighted to welcome award-winning author and spoken word artist Jaspreet Kaur for an inspiring day at Hallfield.

Jaspreet delivered an empowering evening talk for parents, “Read, Rise and Shine: How Literacy Builds Confidence and Empowers Young Minds,” sharing how storytelling and self-expression can shape confidence and identity.

In the afternoon, Jaspreet led a powerful spoken word poetry workshop for our Senior and some Prep pupils, centred around the theme “My Voice Has Power.”

Using a specially designed worksheet, pupils explored what power means to them through reflective writing, creative prompts, and personal storytelling. From brainstorming bold “power words” to freewriting about moments they felt powerful—or powerless—pupils were encouraged to dig deep and express themselves with honesty and courage. The workshop culminated in pupils crafting their own spoken word lines, including striking prompts like “I am powerful when…” and “If Power were a person…” Jaspreet also coached them on how to bring their words to life through performance, encouraging eye contact, gesture, and emotion. It was an empowering session that gave our young poets the tools—and confidence—to use their voice with impact.
