Hands-on Experience for our LV Geographers

Published by St Mary's Calne on Thursday 26th of June 2025

On Monday 9 June, our LV Geography classes took a trip to Blackpool Brook in the Forest of Dean, for the physical section of our coursework.

We explored the river’s course, observing meanders, straight and human influenced sections. We conducted fieldwork by measuring the river’s width, depth, pebble size and velocity at different points.

The trip helped us understand river processes like erosion, transportation, and deposition in natural settings.

We ended our trip with a quick walk to Devil's Pulpit and some wonderful local ice cream beside the River Wye, one of our GCSE case studies.

Overall, the trip was incredibly helpful to apply our learning to real-life exploration, and we all learnt a lot!
