Young Musicians Take Centre Stage

On the evening of Wednesday 18th June, our talented pupils in 1st to 3rd Form took to the stage for the much-anticipated Junior Concert — a joyful celebration of their hard work, dedication, and musical development over the past year.

The concert marked the culmination of months of practice and progress, with each performance reflecting the confidence and creativity fostered through our Key Stage 3 Music curriculum. From timeless classical pieces to rock and pop favourites, solos to small ensembles, each act demonstrated increasing technical ability and expressive maturity. The concert concluded on a touching note with a heartfelt rendition of 'Only You' by Vince Clarke, sung by the 1st Form.

A distinctive feature of Kingham Hill's Key Stage 3 Music provision is free, weekly small-group instrumental tuition offered to all pupils in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Form. This initiative is designed to introduce pupils to a wide range of instruments, from strings and woodwind to percussion and voice, and to ignite a lifelong appreciation for music. By giving every pupil access to expert tuition and ensemble playing, the programme nurtures both skill and self-expression.

Peripatetic Manager, Mr Denton, praised the pupils’ commitment, stating: “Taking up an instrument for the first time is a hard task and they've done an amazing job.”

Headmaster Mr Last continued: “To all of you, that was fabulous, absolutely brilliant! I’m personally very excited that I can see the next generation of clarinetists coming through. I look forward to having some of you sitting next to me in Concert Band soon, I hope. Well done to all of you. I know for some of you this has really taken you out of your comfort zone… but you’ve done it and I’m very proud of you. I really hope that you will continue to enjoy music — listening to music and making music. Certainly as Headmaster, you all know I love my music, I love singing, I love playing and I do a lot of it. I am passionate about young people developing musical literacy.”
