LWC Finishes Academic Year on a High

How do you judge the success of a school’s academic year?

Some would say exam results, others may rate the destinations of the outgoing Sixth Form. Sporting success, Performing Arts achievements and the exceptional delivery of pastoral care are all worthy of ranking high on the list.

But the broad smiles of inspired students is also a great indicator and this year has been one to remember at LWC.

The College has just been shortlisted for Co-ed Independent School of the Year in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2025 and is now ranked among the top 65 in the country for academic results. LWC was responsible for 15 county champion sports sides this year, has reached two national finals and ranked second out of all schools competing in Devizes to Westminster Junior Canoe Race. It staged a sell-out production of Bugsy Malone at Basingstoke’s Haymarket Theatre and wowed audiences with an interpretation of Richard Bean’s One Man, Two Guvnors.

In his final letter to parents for this academic year, Headmaster, Adam Williams reflected, “Away from the big headline moments, I’ve watched expressions of quiet achievement, of inspired awe, of self-esteem on the rise and exam nerves on the slide. This, all supported by a wonderful group of staff who love turning up each morning and are proud to be shaping young lives at their most transformational point.”

This year’s Speech Day celebration was a fitting end to an extraordinary year at LWC and there is much more still to come.

Sport and fitness being crucial factors for a long and remarkable life is key to the LWC philosophy. Phase one of our sector-leading Sport, Fitness, Health and Adventure Centre is set for completion in September, with the arrival of a new Strength and Conditioning Suite. This is part of a 2.5 million pound redevelopment of LWC’s sporting provision, with the aim of creating unrivalled facilities for our community.

A new department to house our experienced and much expanded SEN and Inclusion Team, together with a new-look library at the heart of the College are just a few of the redevelopment highlights going on this summer.

This is all due to be completed by the beginning of September, when LWC will merge with St Neot’s Preparatory School, following a formal collaboration which has been in place since April 2021. This will offer an inspiring educational pathway, stretching from 2 to 18 years, with the aim of continuing to widen worlds in two settings with closely aligned educational values.

The future looks bright and the smiles are broadening for what lies ahead.
