Finalists for National DEIJ Award

We are proud to announce that we have been named a finalist in the Independent Schools of the Year 2025 Awards, recognised for our outstanding commitment to Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ).

This national recognition highlights what makes us distinctive: we are a values-driven, globally minded coastal school where kindness meets ambition. Our pupils’ voices shape how we learn, play and grow together. From inclusive sports and gender-neutral policies to cultural celebrations and international representation, we live our ethos that every child deserves to feel seen, heard and supported.

Rooted in a Christian ethos and strong pastoral care, we combine the intimacy of a small-scale school, where every pupil is known personally, with the ambition and breadth of a globally connected education. With 22% of pupils speaking English as an additional language and a strong SEND provision, inclusion is embedded into our everyday practice.

Our initiatives are wide-ranging and pupil-led. The TEDI Forum empowers children to raise issues and shape real change, from uniform options to inclusive food provision. The Junior School’s “Right of the Month” initiative connects families and school in shared reflection, while the Halo Code is championed by pupil ambassadors. Our “You said, we did” board ensures feedback is acted upon, with pupils leading reforms such as inclusive snack policies, swimming caps for all hair types and respectful changing room charters. As one parent observed: “They don’t see needs as problems – they just normalise difference and make life easier.”

This culture of inclusion is also recognised by our governors. As one noted: “We want to make everything accessible for all,” reflecting the shared commitment across our school community.

As we approach our 150th anniversary, this recognition underlines our ability to balance heritage with renewal: maintaining our Ramsgate identity and Lawrentian tradition while preparing pupils for universities, careers and lives around the world.

Head of College, Mr Brown, commented:
“We are deeply honoured to be named a finalist for the Independent School of the Year Award for Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice. At the heart of our school is a community where every child is known, valued and encouraged to thrive. This recognition affirms our commitment to building a culture of belonging, where differences are celebrated and each young person is empowered to flourish with confidence and compassion.”

Whether through inclusive sport for all, academic ambition in small classes, cultural storytelling or the international outlook of our boarding community, we remain committed to shaping kind, confident and globally minded young people.
