First-ever girls’ 1st XI hockey team excels at Kent County Championships
History was made this week as Eltham’s first-ever girls’ 1st XI hockey team competed at the Under 18 “Mel Clewlow” Kent County Championships in Canterbury – putting in an outstanding performance at the school’s inaugural outing at this level of the competition.
The girls topped their group, winning four and drawing one, scoring five and conceding nil. In the semi-finals they beat Sutton Valence School on penalty shuffles, with Tessa (Year 11) scoring the only goal, and Kyveli (L6) keeping out all three penalties. The girls eventually lost to Sevenoaks School 1 – 0 in the final, finishing the day as Kent County Runners-Up.
To achieve this accolade at Eltham’s first ever attempt is nothing less than exceptional. Congratulations to all – we are immensely proud of you.
The day’s results:
1-0 win vs Duke of York’s Royal Military School
0-0 draw vs Ashford School
2-0 win vs Langley Park School
1-0 win vs Colfe’s
1-0 win vs St Edmund’s School
Semi-final vs Sutton Valence
0-0 normal time and 1-0 on penalties
Final vs Sevenoaks School
